What is a Somatic Coaching session like?
A session is based on the client’s concerns and what she or he wants to create in life—in the present and for the future. It is a transformational process, both in the moment during the session and in how it unfolds over time.
We use awareness of bodily sensations, language, mood, posture, movement (and how they manifest in daily life) to uncover and bring to light what has been inaccessible. We might work on the client’s life purpose—vision, mission, and action plan—or concerns about the workplace, business, or relationships, using bodily awareness to inform the process. Aikido-based practices and exercises are often part of the session and at-home work and are used to build power, flexibility, and the ability to listen to and coordinate with others—all within a relaxed body.
Sessions are typically scheduled for 1 or 1.5 hours. Somatic Bodywork is often part of a session, too. Additionally, at-home practices, such as meditation, reading, and centering, help to extend the learning between sessions and give clients tools to use in real-life situations throughout the course of their day.
